last day out

so, this was the last day out. what to say about it? uuhhm, the location was nice. i had fun. i didn’t have to pay. that’s something  :D

i drove with a friend of mine from salzburg to the location at the clam castle in upper austria. after arriving, i went to the ticket store, stating, that i should be on the guest list. i wasn’t. luckily, i had the printed e-mail with me that said that i was. although for a moment there i thought that someone had been messing with me. long story behind this that i can’t really elaborate. they wanted to keep the print with the mail and gave me the tickets.

the weather forecast was pretty bad so we were prepared for the worst, but the weather was surprisingly fine except a few little raindrops here and there. at the end of the shows it started to rain but by that time we were already in the car.

HC Strache was there as well :) at the last minute before i left carinthia i got hold of a friend of mine, christoph, the HC strache look-a-like from linz, who was in klam as well. it was nice to see him again. pardon the picture but i only had my cell phone with me.

now for the bands that played in chronological order:

3 FEET SMALLER
they already played when we arrived, due to my delay at the ticket store and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. marcus smaller was entertaining the audience, getting a girl up the stage and giving her an air-guitar. fun! but i did like his solo-project “alone & acoustic” at the acoustic lakeside concert more than the 3 feet smaller performance. first, because of the music, second, because of the lame avril-lavigne-like-school-uniform with black shorts, white shirt and a red tie. overused.

H-BLOCKX
the audience enjoyed it, but i don’t think they have anything other than a decent “ring of fire” cover that i’ve last heard in 2000 or something. and just now in winamp. “risin’ high” was ok too, but besides that, i’m not really into it. the new single “countdown to insanity” is boring (at least in my eyes). but kudos to the singer who managed to catch a flying beer cup and drank the rest. with his hat on, he also looked a bit like ice-t.

MAD CADDIES
i can’t tell much about them, since most of their performance i’ve been standing in line to get something to eat and teaming up with christoph (pic), but it sounded quite good!

BLOODHOUND GANG
a bit disappointing, but it’s nice to catch “fire water burn” live for once, though the song is at least a few hundred years old. and besides “discovery channel“, “f.u.c.k.” and “along comes mary” i didn’t know anything and i’m glad for that, because i didn’t like it either way. i thought it would be fun to see the bloodhound gang live but in case you haven’t - you didn’t miss anything. sick bastard evil jared showed his penis around, spit, pissed and puked all over almost anything. and jimmy pop started his own chant “jimmy pop is homosexual” which transformed into “immer wieder, immer wieder, immer wieder österreich”. they dropped a few german words here and there and apologized for britney spears, lindsay lohan and paris hilton, which was a sign of good faith and therefore i will not wipe out the entire USA once i enjoy world domination. after thanking austria for mozart, freud and red bull they told us to be eternally thankful for the simpsons. good point.

NOFX
living legends live, quite nice. the crowd was really looking forward to them as i could tell by seeing all these NOFX shirts. “the brews” live was way cool, one of the few songs that i knew before, but i missed a few other ones that i know. all in all i expected a bit more from NOFX, don’t know why. still, crowd-pleasers for sure and i liked it after all. quote of the day to two guys in the audience: “you’d make my day if you’d give each other a kiss now. isn’t that what EMO is all about? two guys kissing?”. in one part, they started a sentence “you germans are …. ” until someone told them, where they’re playing. whoooops!

don’t know if i have missed out anything from the performances - it’s usually not “my type of music” and i wouldn’t have paid 45€ for this, but i got in “quite cheap”, so no complaints from this side.

as for the whole ambience i have to say that there were so many stereotypes coming true. shit faced drunk people from all ages, a few of whom had to be taken care of by the medical stuff. an awful lot of NOFX shirts (about 30% of all people there!) and i still don’t get it why people have to throw their beers into the audience… as if it wasn’t expensive enough… what a waste. and rude. but more a waste. that precious, precious beer.

merchandise was way to expensive by the way, the last day out shirt cost 25€!! but it’s just a great shirt motif (main picture of this article). since i saved some money on tickets i thought i could effort it :)

a concert after all?

www.vignesbalasingam.com | NOFX after lake07 was cancelled, i will now attend the last day out festival by clam concerts in upper austria on the 31st of august 2007. i was tempted to go to two days a week, but only ignite would have been worth it. to bad noone would accompany me there.

so now i will head to the last day out with a buddy to see 3 feet smaller, mad caddies, h-blockx, the bloodhound gang and NOFX. the bloodhoung gang sounds like fun and i wanted to get to know the music of 3 feet smaller for a long time. also, because i recently saw marcus smaller (”alone and acoustic“) at the acoustic lakeside session.

plus: NOFX, i mean, that’s got to be cool. right? right?  (”i heard they suck live”)
(as for now, i only know “the brews” and “kill of the white man”, but i probably know more without knowing it’s from NOFX)

oh, and by the way: big thanks to He Who Must Not Be Named.
