in search for an integration of my flickr sets into my homepage i came across FAlbum, a wordpress plugin that does exactly what i was looking for. not only that, it also looks great and seems to work well. i had a little trouble at first, but i figured out that i messed up my rewrite rules and used an already taken name. now that the folder is called “flickr”, everything works.
so if you don’t want to head over to flickr to watch my photos, now you can do it directly on my site!

instantly love it! it even displays the flickr comments!

i just got an email i’d like to share:
Hi! I was just writing to tell you how much I loved your plug in & how it doesn’t seem to function any longer in my Winamp. Maybe the newer version of Winamp (5.35) made it stop working? Its not even getting picked up by the plug ins preferences panel. Just thought you should know. Thanks!
so the story behind this is, that a few years ago, i published a plugin for winamp that i made for myself. on Apr. 24th, 2003 it got published at winamp.com and received a few thousand downloads ever since, which is pretty cool.
i have been using this plugin up until today and probably will use it for a another long time. it does a simple job: with a shortcut you can physically delete the current song that is playing. there’s an option to just move the file instead of deleting, which i do. all “deleted” songs are sorted into a folder where i delete them every once in a while. good way if you accidentally delete a song.
the plugin is written in visual basic. the old school one, not the dot net version :)
now the point is, some time after i published the plugin i got requests from all over the world for very specific functions. people wanted to just kick the file out of an existing playlist or they wanted a rating and different folders upon rating and so on.. all these requests have been turned down. the early requests have been answered with an offer to send the source code.
ever since i learned basic programming i have built tools solely to serve my own needs. each little software did or is doing a specific task. this is a very efficient way to handle software for me as i keep practicing and only have to do what i want. no support, no complaints, extensions as i like.
but this published plugin seems to live on and on.
every now and then i receive a similar mail and i respond to all of them if basic rules of conversations are followed. one time i got an email telling me to fuck off because that crap piece of software doesn’t work.
well booo-hooo.
in other mails i always try to respond properly. so the plugin is still working for me and i just checked my winamp version… guess what… 5.35 :)
i will reply with “bad luck” or “try again”, because i don’t even care to figure out why it wouldn’t work on any computer. and i won’t even debug, because i don’t have the source code any longer.
maybe, just maybe, someday i’ll make a new version in .NET.
if there’s time. if the plugin stops working for me. :D
