check out the gaslight anthem

ever since my brother recommended them*, i’ve been quite addicted to The Gaslight Anthem.

from Wikipedia:

The Gaslight Anthem is an American pop punk band from New Brunswick, New Jersey. They released their first album, Sink or Swim, on XOXO Records on May 29, 2007.

(…)

The Gaslight Anthem’s music embraces many elements of the Jersey Shore sound. Indeed, the band’s fondness for Bruce Springsteen, a significant influence on their music, is a fact celebrated by fans and critics alike. Representative of such views, one critic writes, “the Gaslight Anthem are like something out of speculative fiction: this is what pop music would be if Springsteen hadn’t listened to his producer, let the Ramones record ["Hungry Heart"], and launched the C.B.G.B.’ers into mega stardom.”

can they live up to the premise these words build up? i think they do, but judge for yourself, here are my two favourites:

The ’59 Sound

I’da called you Woody, Joe

i especially love the voice of the singer and the general flow of the songs!

more about them on the intertubes:

and best of all:
I’ll be seeing them live in Vienna in February. I can’t wait for that!

* coming to think about it now, most of the stuff I like today was somehow influenced by or recommended by my brother :D like Coheed and Cambria as well for example. thanks bro!

check out: coheed and cambria

this is meant to be “take a 5 minute break and listen to the following recommendation”. it should not only mean that you take 5 minutes to listen or watch to the recommendation, but it also shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to write that post. except for this first one, of course :) i’ll add more recommendations from time to time. i’m glad i can just link to existing content over the net. there’s just so much good music i want to share with you :)

i’ll open up with Coheed and Cambria, who I already saw live this year and they were amazing.

What Wikipedia has to say:

Coheed and Cambria is an American rock band formed in New York.[1] The band has been active since 1995, although they did not go by the name Coheed and Cambria until 2001, when Nate Kelley left the band. Before this they were known as Shabűtie.

Coheed and Cambria’s albums are concept albums, revealing the plot of a science fiction storyline called The Amory Wars, written by lead singer Claudio Sanchez. To date, the band has released four studio albums, two live albums, and various special-edition releases, with their latest release being Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow in 2007.

Where you’ll find them online:

And here, the real take 5 part: listen to it and decide if you like it. if you like it, give them another shot with other videos linked below. if not, you’ve only wasted 5 minutes that you wouldn’t have spent any better otherwise.

opening up with:
Coheed and Cambria – Devil in Jersey City

i would have opened with “A Favor House Atlantic”, but embedding on the other videos has been disabled.
