i just returned from a trip to vienna and sadly can’t attend I AM KLOOT in graz tonight because of lack of transportation back to klagenfurt :(
but I have managed to see Kettcar on friday, who were just about as awesome as I had expected them to be. unfortunately, I didn’t like the supporting act Kreisky at all. great concert from Kettcar, just about perfect.
I was there with Markus from graz who said that I should check out Tomte as well the following day because they are “better than Kettcar”.
they are not. at least in my oppinion. I enjoyed Kettcar way more. and it was quite a journey to get a Tomte ticket in the end because the show was sold out. luckily, there’s last.fm :)
what was surprising was that I ended up enjoying the supporting act Novillero a lot. so after the concert was over I purchased both Novillero cds and I’m listening to them right now. good choice, they are pretty cool. also I found out that they are from Winnipeg, Canada. does that ring a bell? my favourite band, The Weakerthans, is also from Winnipeg. how awesome.
see how close we were? during the concert the guys went from the main stage right to the place where we were sitting.. and then played two songs unplugged :D how awesome is that? and what a great event it was! i’m still blown away…
(yes i was too late to buy tickets in the standing area, but obviously it was totally worth it :)
that was my second barcamp after the one in klagenfurt in february and vienna was a great time as well. as i stated in the introduction round, i don’t have that much to do with all the tech-stuff that happens there, i’m only curious and some sort of spy observer.
a lot of nice people were attending and organisation was perfect! the barcamp vienna took place at the microsoft office and microsoft was also the main sponsor with AON. thanks to the sponsors and the organisation team consisting of Rolf Mistelbacher, Karin Schmollgruber, Thomas Metschke and Michael Schuster.
one of the most interesting sessions for me was “Web 2.0 in China” by Oliver Überholz. it was really cool to see that China really seems to have it’s own internet, including total rips from all the mayor sites like Google, Flickr or Youtube. and, maybe the funniest thing, they are starting to get confronted with copyright infringements on their own, since they steal from here and there. but that seems to be in their mentality, to just use something that has proven to work well again. i’m glad i attended that session, since i missed it in klagenfurt during another session that got my intention.
important for future barcamps: record every session with a camera and put it online so it won’t be that big of a deal if you miss one session because there was another one at the same time that you attended.
martin of course had to do a session on photowalks in austria and i recorded it with georgs video camera. it wasn’t that crowded, but martin has been in talks to export the walks to vorarlberg and vienna already. good thing :)
in the session “get a real life” by Johannes Beyerlein and Sebastian Grünwaldt i mentioned photowalk.at again as part of all the cool things where geeks or people from all over the net meet up in real life (which is a very important thing for me in using the web)
during the very first session i met Ethan Hawk double Christian Lendl from blog.austria.info and he also had his camera with him, doing a few panoramic views and he made the group shot on sunday. turned out really great!
chris was also nice enough to let me play with his sigma 8mm fisheye and i had to make a few shots. fisheyes are great fun. too bad they are a bit pricy if you only need it for “fun”, but chris has already made some great 360° shots, also mixing 360° with cloning people!
here are a few of my fisheye shots:
(the second one of roman hanhart has been shot by achim meurer with my cam.)
overall, barcamp was great fun and i’m looking forward to the next one that i will be attending in klagenfurt. planing already started and georg already put up the wiki and the logo!
