in search for an integration of my flickr sets into my homepage i came across FAlbum, a wordpress plugin that does exactly what i was looking for. not only that, it also looks great and seems to work well. i had a little trouble at first, but i figured out that i messed up my rewrite rules and used an already taken name. now that the folder is called “flickr”, everything works.
so if you don’t want to head over to flickr to watch my photos, now you can do it directly on my site!

instantly love it! it even displays the flickr comments!

… then my website is finally on it’s new server over at domainfactory.
for years i was kindly hosted on the server of my former company, but now it’s time to move on. unfortunately it is not affordable to buy webspace with ASP/MSSQL so it had to be a PHP/MySQL host and domainfactory was offering half a year for 3EUR/month, plus they were recommended by a few people i know.
so far, domainfactory was really fast in setting up my webspace and everything. i sent the contract on a sunday and everything worked on monday 08:00 am.
well, not everything. my domain had to be transferred as well.
here’s what happened:
- domain transfer process started
- e-mail to my admin-c adress to enter an authentication code
- i looked up my registrar and asked for it. first guy on the phone didn’t have a fucking clue what i was talking about and gave me a random code he read from the whois information
- i sent an email to the guy in charge at the registrar. no response for a few days
- i contacted my former employee to ask for the authentication code and finally got the phone number of the registrar i had to talk to
- he said he sent me the code right away on monday, but there was nothing, not even in my spam box.
- he tried to sent the mail and got an error message, so he said (why did he not recognize this 5 days before?)
- i got the code over the phone
- i entered the code
- the code was not accepted
- i called the registrar again and confirmed the code
- the code was not accepted
- the domain transfer process ran out of time
- i let domainfactory start the domain transfer process over again
- i got another mail to my admin-c adress to enter the authentication code
- it got rejected again
- i asked for a new code from my registrar which finally was accepted. hooray!
now i am using wordpress for my blog and just made a template that looks exactly (or as close as it gets) to my former blog template with the ASP blog. i never had anything to do with PHP but it was pretty easy to hack wordpress - not only to adopt the default template, but also to hack some kernel files to fit my needs! and with plugins, this is a very powerfull piece of software! :)
what changed is the adress of my RSS-feed! since i already had to transfer from my old blog i also changed the feed to be supplied by feedburner. if you really care about what i’m saying here, the RSS-feed is the best way to keep up to date. with wordpress, i also have a feed on my recent comments!
